5D Methodology

Discover

To be successful, it is critical that a clear understanding of the foundational information and requirements is generated. During this process, the requirements, objectives, supply market and organizational information is analyzed. Some of the activities in this step include:

  • Review current Agreements
  • Review current implementation models
  • Review utilization

Demand

Understanding demand is potentially the most important activity that will ensure a commercially beneficial outcome. Given the integrated nature of supply models, understanding the up-stream and down-stream effects is critical. In this step, some of the key tasks are:

  • Review strategic roadmap
  • Conduct workshops and interviews with IT Stakeholders
  • Gain insight into the relevant architecture

Define

In this step, data that was gathered in the previous steps are collated and analyzed to define the strategic roadmap. In this the "as is" and the "to be" is defined effectively providing a holistic view of needs for the organization. Given this, some of the activities undertaken are:

  • Define commercial model
  • Analyze high-risk products
  • Perform GAP analysis
  • Map requirements against timeline
  • Create Sourcing Strategy

Design

In this step, we engage with the market to design the supply arrangement. This is where the "who", "what", "where", "when" and "how" takes shape. In this step activities such as the following is done:

  • Perform the market enquiry (RFI/Q/P)
  • Evaluate response submissions.
  • Conduct and/or assist in the negotiations
  • Design the optimal agreement structure
  • Perform Price benchmarking

Deploy

Without deployment, all the previous steps hold no value. Sourcing and procurement due to its workload often leaves this to the operational management role-players, but this is where nearly 20% value is lost. If organizations don't deploy what they have procured it can only be described as "lost profit". Therefore, to ensure that the value is delivered, these activities is performed:

  • Map deployment plan
  • Perform a "knowledge transfer workshop"
  • Manage contract implementation and governance
  • Facilitate vendor relationship management
  • Align delivery across the implementation network.
